Understand the Myths about Food and REVOLUTIONIZE your Life | Shiv Yog

Food is not only an emotion, but also a passion. We become what we eat. We think according to what we eat. There is a lot of information on the Internet and hearsay among people about what to eat and what to avoid. It gets overwhelming what to #believe and what not to. Moreover, there are many cultural norms and superstitions related to #food. We all want to eat #well, stay #healthy, be strong and immune,

ward off diseases, increase our #energy and feel good in general. There are various #myths about food and food habits that need to be busted, to consume a #healthy, nutritious and balanced diet for a fit body and mind.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉 - 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒃𝒐𝒉𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒅: It is a myth that carbohydrates make you fat and avoiding them makes you lose weight. In fact, the right types of #carbohydrates are good for the body. Avoiding refined carbs such as white bread, white rice and processed junk food is a good habit. But carbs in #fruits and #vegetables are nutritious food choices. Fibre-loaded carbs such as sweet potatoes, whole wheat flour and breads provide energy to the body, resulting in better functioning of the brain.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉 – 𝑬𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂 𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔: Eating once a day may cause temporary weight loss. It may reverse with time and will eventually make you more sluggish. It is better to eat small and frequent meals, at the proper time, for the bout of #energy and #nutrition. The body should know when to expect the next dose of energy via food.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉 – 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕: Carrots and for that matter all red-coloured fruits and vegetables contain Vitamin A that benefits the hair, skin, nails along with vision. It is very beneficial to include them in your diet but consuming carrots is not a simple and magical way to increase your vision.

𝑴𝒚𝒕𝒉 – 𝑬𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒂𝒕: Natural fats are required for the body and are beneficial. Saturated fats in processed and junk foods such as chips, cookies and fried food should be avoided. But fats in #natural and unprocessed food nuts, olive oil etc. enhance heart health, control blood sugar, increase stamina and overall well-being.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙖𝙩: Food cooked in the morning can be consumed any time of the day, but ideally not after that. Raw food such as #salads and #fruits should be consumed fresh after cutting.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙏𝙚𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙛𝙪𝙡: Tea and coffee contain antioxidants, which in moderate quantities is good for the body for various #health conditions.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙅𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮: Juice contains sugar mostly, which may be harmful for the body. Fresh fruits contain only particular #vitamins, while the body needs a little bit of everything, including proteins, fibre, minerals etc.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝘼𝙡𝙘𝙤𝙝𝙤𝙡 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙗𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙛𝙞𝙩𝙨: Alcohol is detrimental for physical and #mental health, especially #spiritual health. One tends to get addicted to it and it lowers down inhibitions and natural reflex systems. There is nothing in alcohol that is not available in other food items that are actually healthy food choices.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙉𝙤𝙣-𝙫𝙚𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙣𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨: There are some nutrients that are available in non-vegetarian food, but those are easily available in vegetarian food items also. Non-vegetarian food contains excessive saturated fat plus the fat required to cook it. Moreover, animals that were killed to serve you have negative emotions on being killed, which are then passed on to the person consuming them. Consuming non-vegetarian food makes one less empathetic, more impatient and hot-blooded, wreaks havoc with the body’s immune system.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙟𝙪𝙣𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙: Nuts and dry #fruits such as almonds, raisins, walnuts, pistachios etc. are extremely rich sources of minerals and good fats. They are extremely #healthy. In summers, nuts can be soaked in #water overnight and consumed in the morning, to give a healthy head start for the day.

𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝 – 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙠 𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙠: Milk and other fluids are very healthy and should be consumed every day and especially when you are under the #weather. They replenish the body fluids and provide vital #energy.

The bottom line is we should not fall prey to any kind of myths regarding food. Eating a balanced diet, at proper time intervals, with a happy and positive mental attitude is best. Everything in moderation is good.
